The Arizona Coyotes have signed first-round pick Barrett Hayton to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Hayton, 18, was taken fifth-overall in last month’s NHL Draft. He had 21 goals and 60 points in 63 games as a centre with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL last season.

He was also named the OHL scholastic player of the year for 2018.

“We are very pleased to sign Barrett to an entry-level contract,” Coyotes GM John Chayka said in a statement. “Barrett is a very talented player with a great work ethic. He had a strong development camp and we look forward to his progress this season.”
