Penguins’ Crosby to miss two games as precaution

The Hockey Central panel discuss Sidney Crosby being out for the Pittsburgh Penguins as they prepare for a game against the Calgary Flames.

Sidney Crosby will miss the next two games as a precautionary measure, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced Friday.

Crosby was photographed during a scrum by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette‘s Seth Rorabaugh, which showed that the Penguins star’s right cheek is quite swollen, leading many to think he has the mumps. The 27-year-old had not been feeling well lately and medical specialists made the recommendation for him to sit out a couple games.

“There is no indication at this time that this is the mumps, but we are going to hold him out as a precaution,” Penguins GM Jim Rutherford said in a press release. “We’ll have additional test results in a few days.”

In recent weeks, there has been a mumps outbreak across the NHL.

The Penguins host the Calgary Flames Friday (on Sportsnet West) and visit the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday.
