The Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) and the Toronto Maple Leafs are partnering to once again bring the league’s two biggest games to Toronto.
“We’re so excited to bring the world’s best female hockey players to Toronto, where all sports fans will have the opportunity to witness the world’s top talent in one place,” interim CWHL commissioner Jayna Hefford said in a press release. “The Toronto Maple Leafs have been invaluable to our development as we continue to set the standard for professional women’s hockey. Throughout the weekend’s festivities, the CWHL will leave a lasting impression on the City of Toronto and its fans.”
Scotiabank Arena will host the CWHL all-star game on Jan. 20 — the fourth straight time the event will be in the Maple Leafs’ home rink. The league did not have an all-star game last season due to the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
The Clarkson Cup championship game will return to Coca-Cola Coliseum, home of the Toronto Marlies, on March 24. The Markham Thunder will look to repeat as champions after a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over the Kunlun Red Star in last year’s final.
“The Toronto Maple Leafs are proud partners of the CWHL and are committed to the continued development of women’s hockey,” Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan said in a press release. “The CWHL All-star game and Clarkson Cup Final are great opportunities for star players to showcase their skills and bring new fans to the league and women’s hockey in Canada.”
Both games will be broadcasted nationwide on Sportsnet.
