After the Toronto Maple Leafs blew a 4-1 lead to the Boston Bruins last night, sportsnet.ca takes a look at the top 10 collapses in playoff history Toronto blew a 4-1 lead, and well on their way to advancing to the second round. The 1986 Boston Red Sox were one out away from ending the Curse of the Bambino. However, after New York Mets’ outfielder Mookie Wilson hit a dribbler that went through Buckner’s leg, the World Series went to Game 7 where the Mets won and Buckner’s career went down in infamy. (AP)

The Bruins weren’t always so lucky in the playoffs, as they blew a 3-0 series lead in the second round against the Philadelphia Flyers, and Philadelphia rallied to win the final four games of the series. (AP/Michael Dwyer)

Although the Buffalo Bills have a history of losing games in agonizing fashion, the 1993 Bills completed the largest comeback in NFL playoff history. Buffalo rallied from 38-3 down, to defeat Houston 41-38. (AP/Bill Sikes)

The Bills’ most infamous moment happened in Super Bowl XXV as Scott Norwood missed a 47-yard field goal that would given Buffalo their first NFL championship. The Bills proceeded to lose the following three Super Bowls, and Norwood’s miss has been dubbed “Wide Right.” (AP/Chris O’Meara)

Bayern Munich led 1-0 at the end of the first 90 minutes of the 1999 Champions League Final. However, Manchester United rallied to score twice in extra time, giving Sir Alex Ferguson his first of two Champions League titles. (AP/Cesar Rangel)

Liverpool also completed a miraculous comeback in the 2005 Champions League Final. AC Milan led 3-0 at halftime, only for the English giant to storm back, forcing the game to penalty kicks, where Jerzy Dudek stopped Milan’s efforts and led Liverpool to the title. (AP/Luca Bruno)

In the 2012 NFC Championship Game, San Francisco 49ers kick returner Kyle Williams fumbled twice, and both mishaps were recovered by the Giants. The latter of the two fumbles happened in overtime, setting up a short Giants field goal that propelled them to the Super Bowl.
