Dale Weise injured, will not return to Winter Classic

Canadiens forward Dale Weise was forced to leave the Winter Classic, after a tough shift where he was cross-checked, then hit in the hand with a point shot.

While the Montreal Canadiens enjoyed the return of impact player Brendan Gallagher to the lineup after his recovery from a hand injury, the team lost another player during the 2016 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic.

Dale Weise left the game in the second period after first taking a cross-check from Kevan Miller and then being hit with a shot in traffic. It’s believed the injury occurred as a result of the shot and the team announced he would not return because of an upper-body injury.

With a surprising 11 goals this season, Weise sits second on the team in goal scoring behind only Max Pacioretty.

The Habs have won just one of their past eight games heading into the Winter Classic, scoring just 11 times in that span.
