Dangle: Dubas, don’t go!

Kyle Dubas spoke about his job with the Maple Leafs and why it’s beneficial for him to stay in Toronto.

IS KYLE DUBAS GOING TO LEAVE THE TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS??!?!??!

No. He said no.

Maple Leafs Assistant GM and Marlies GM Kyle Dubas said that he is not ready to be an NHL general manager and he does not want to leave Toronto. That’s obviously good news for Leafs fans (like myself) who have been trained to embrace dread and pessimism as a natural defence mechanism.

I was still surprised that Dubas would actually say he doesn’t feel like he’s ready. Can you imagine a player saying that? I asked Marlies captain Andrew Campbell that very question. Here’s what he said:

“I can’t see a player saying that. They might think it inside of them but everybody wants to be in the NHL, right? I think that just shows the maturity of Kyle and how self-aware he is. He’s obviously going to be a general manager in the National Hockey League one day. I don’t think it’s a matter of if, it’s a matter of when. For him to come out and say that just shows he knows where he’s at. It’s definitely a good thing. He’s done a fantastic job with our group, clearly, so he’ll be there one day. I think he knows that and we all know that as well.”

Here’s my take on the whole thing…
