Being the father of a 9 year-old, I like many of you, am waiting patiently for the H1N1 vaccine to be available for him. Being that he’s over 6 and in good health he’s not considered high risk. Of course when we get the word we will stand in line for however long it takes to get him the shot. I anticipate a very long day standing in line.
Hearing the news that some NHL and NBA players have already had their shots has me sick to my stomach. As angry as I am that they have jumped to the front of the line, I’m not surprised at all.
Should anybody?
Pro athletes, like movie stars, don’t live by the same rules as we do.
Whether it’s getting a table at a restaurant, a tee time, or an MRI, us “regular people” don’t have the same privileges.
A few years back I was covering a game at Yankees Stadium. On the way out I was stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic with thousands of others. All of a sudden two cops on motorcycles had everyone pull over to the side of the road. Was there an accident? An emergency? Nope, just a Yankee player that wanted to get on the interstate and not have to battle traffic.
Unfortunately that’s the way it works and I don’t see it changing anytime soon. Enjoy your time in line, maybe I’ll see you.
