The Albany Devils are on the move.
The team announced Tuesday that the New Jersey Devils‘ AHL club will be moving to Binghamton, N.Y.
The relocation was unanimously approved by the American Hockey League’s Board of Governors and will see the team begin the 2017-18 season in their new home.
“After evaluating multiple scenarios and obtaining the approval of the AHL Board of Governors, we have agreed to partner with a local operating group in Binghamton, NY to relocate our AHL franchise for the 2017-18 season,” Hugh Weber, president of the New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center, said in a statement. “The new arrangement will allow the organization to focus its efforts on developing our player prospects, while leaving the business operations to those with expertise in the market.”
Binghamton has been home to the Ottawa Senators‘ farm team since 2002, but that partnership will end at the end of this season. Back in September, the Senators agreed to an eight-year deal with City of Belleville, Ont. to bring the AHL team closer to home.
