It appears we have seen the last of New Jersey Devils forward Ryane Clowe in the National Hockey League.

A history of brain injuries, including four concussions in the last two seasons, will force the 32-year-old to spend the remaining three years of his current contract on long-term injury reserve, Devils beat reporter Tom Gulitti reports.

Clowe last played on November 6, 2014, when he suffered a hit to the head from St. Louis Blues forward David Backes.

The native of Fermeuse, Newfoundland has three years and $14.55 million remaining on a five-year, $24.25 million contract he signed with the Devils on July 5, 2013.

Clowe was drafted 175th overall by the San Jose Sharks in the sixth round of the 2001 NHL Draft. He totalled 101 goals and 271 points in 423 games with Sharks before landing with the New York Rangers in a 2013 trade deadline deal.

The former two-time 20-goal scorer accumulated 112 goals and 309 points in 491 games over the course of his 10-year NHL career.
