Devils’ Cory Schneider sent to Albany for conditioning

Cory Schneider had to leave the game after injuring himself against the post on a save attempt.

The New Jersey Devils have sent Cory Schneider to AHL Albany for a conditioning stint, and have placed the goaltender on injured reserve retroactive to March 4.

Schneider has been out since spraining his MCL in a game against the Dallas Stars.

The 30-year-old is 26-23-6 with a 2.17 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage in 55 games this season.

The plan is for Schneider to return to New Jersey in time for Tuesday’s practice.

Perhaps the lone bright side to Schneider’s absence has been the play of rookie Scott Wedgewood.

Wedgewood made his first career start on March 20, and has since gone 2-0-1 with a 0.66 goals-against average, .978 save percentage and one shutout in his first three games heading into Sunday’s contest against the Carolina Hurricanes.
