Devils’ Gabriel suspended one game for boarding Flyers’ Patrick

New Jersey Devils' Kurtis Gabriel lays a dangerous hit from behind on Nolan Patrick, the Philadelphia Flyers take exception and he is awarded a five minute major.

New Jersey Devils forward Kurtis Gabriel has been suspended one game for an incident involving Philadelphia Flyers forward Nolan Patrick, the league announced Saturday.

The 25-year-old Gabriel caught Patrick, 20, with a dangerous hit-from-behind during opening minutes of the two clubs’ meeting on Friday night, as seen in the video above. A scrum ensued as Patrick was forced to head down the tunnel. Gabriel was handed a five-minute boarding major for the incident.

Patrick answered back later in the tilt with a shot of his own, sending Gabriel to the ice with a stiff shoulder.

The Flyers went on to win 6-3.

Gabriel has three points through 14 appearances in the big leagues this season, while Patrick has 26 points through 58 games for the Flyers in 2018-19.
