Devils’ Miles Wood suspended two games for boarding Namestnikov

Watch as Miles Wood lays a brutal hit from behind on Vladislav Namestnikov, then breaks the visor of Andrej Sustr who came in to retaliate.

New Jersey Devils forward Miles Wood has been suspended two games for boarding Tampa Bay Lightning star Vladislav Namestnikov.

Taking place Saturday, early in the second period Wood delivered a hit from from behind on Namestnikov, knocking the Lightning star’s head into the boards. Afterwards, Namestnikov’s Lightning teammate Andrej Sustr jumped to his aid, but ended up getting his visor cracked over his head fighting Wood, leaving him looking bloody.

On the play, Wood was assessed a two-minute minor for boarding and another two-minute minor for roughing — a penalty that was served by Devils winger Jimmy Hayes. Sustr was also assesed a two-minute minor for roughing.

Wood is the Devils’ fifth-leading scorer with 26 points, but rankes second on the team with 16 goals. The Devils are currently in possession of the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
