After the New Jersey Devils blew a 5-3 lead in their 7-6 overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, defenceman P.K. Subban wasn’t letting himself off the hook.

Subban was critical of his performance calling it “probably his worst game of the season” finishing as a minus-two after playing 24 minutes.

“They brought me in to do a job so I didn’t do my job today and that kind of sucks,” Subban told Devils reporter Amanda Stein after the game. “Our team played so well today, we should have won this game. I feel like a lack of me playing up to the level that I’m capable of really hurt us today.”

“It’s gonna be tough to get some Zs tonight but that’s a part of it,” said Subban. “It’s a long season but I definitely have to shoulder a lot of responsibility for the result tonight. There’s really no excuse for it.”

In 10 games this season, Subban has scored a goal and four points while averaging 23:52 ice time. He was acquired by the Devils in the off-season from the Nashville Predators in exchange for Steven Santini, Jeremy Davies plus second-round picks in 2019 and 2020.

New Jersey sits 30th in the league with a 2-5-3 record this season allowing 43 goals this season.

“There are certain things that I don’t need to be doing and did too many things on the negative side today for me, so [I] got to clean that up,” said Subban. “They brought me into to play a certain way and to have some stability back there and I pride my game on that but it wasn’t there today.”
