Authorities are investigating and allegation by an unidentified woman who claims she was sexually assaulted earlier in the year by Kings defenceman Drew Doughty, according to the L.A. Times.
Los Angeles County district attorney spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons declined to divulge any further information to the Times, saying that the case is under review and that a resolution is expected later in the week.
Doughty’s attorney, Craig Renetzky, told the paper he expects the case to be rejected.
According to Sgt. Robert Higgins, who investigated the case, the 25-year-old woman claimed she met Doughty at a Hermosa Beach bar in March and accompanied the 22-year-old to his home, where she rejected him in front of several teammates.
They then took a cab to the woman’s home, where she accused Doughty of raping her. The woman reported the incident to police the same day.
Higgins said the woman has been “less than cooperative” and that there are questions surrounding the woman’s credibility.
According to TMZ, it’s expected the district attorney will reject the case and no charges will be brought against Doughty.
