Ducks’ Cam Fowler out indefinitely after being struck in face with puck

Cam Fowler tried blocking a Craig Smith shot with his stick but ended up deflecting the puck up into his own face.

Anaheim Ducks defenceman Cam Fowler is expected to be out indefinitely after he was struck in the face with a puck during Monday night’s 2-1 shootout loss to Nashville.

Fowler, 26, is expected to undergo surgery Friday after “a CT scan revealed a complex right facial fracture involving the orbital bone, cheekbone and upper jaw bone,” the team announced.

In 19 games this season, the former first-round pick has 10 points (three goals, seven assists) and a +3 rating — including a hat trick on Nov. 4 vs. Columbus.

The Ducks open a four-game home stand Friday night against the Maple Leafs.
