Perry gets 4 games for hit to head

As first reported by Sportsnet, the National Hockey League suspended Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry four games on Saturday for a hit to the head on Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers.

The hit occured in Anaheim’s 5-4 shootout loss to the Flyers on Friday night. While Perry was given a double-minor penalty for high-sticking on the play, replays show he used his elbow to deliver the hit.

The Ducks forward, who had a goal and an assist in the game and was named the No. 1 star, is the second-leading scorer on the team with 34 points (10 goals, 24 assists) in 39 games.

Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Perry will forfeit US$114,516 to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund. He will be eligible to return Jan. 11 against the New Jersey Devils.
