A person familiar with the move tells The Associated Press the Anaheim Ducks are preparing to part ways with forward Dennis Rasmussen by placing him on waivers.

The Ducks will have the option of either terminating the remainder of Rasmussen’s one-year contract or loaning him to another team, including Europe, should the third-year player clear waivers on Tuesday.

The person spoke to The AP on Monday on the condition of anonymity because the Ducks have not announced the move.

Rasmussen had one goal and three assists, and averaged less than nine minutes of playing time in 27 games before Anaheim demoted him to the minors on Dec. 29.

The 27-year-old from Sweden signed a one-year, $725,000 contract with the Ducks in July after playing the previous two seasons with Chicago.

Rasmussen has nine goals and 21 points in 139 career NHL games.
