Oilers place Khabibulin on IR, recall Danis

The Edmonton Oilers placed veteran goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin on injured reserve Wednesday and recalled Yann Danis from the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League, the team announced via press release.

Oilers head coach Ralph Kreuger told the team’s official website Wednesday that Khabibulin originally hurt his groin on the final penalty shot against the Phoenix Coyotes and then tweaked it once again in overtime against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Khabibulin is 2-2-1 with a 2.11 goals against average and a .935 save percentage in five games this season.

The 40-year-old Russian has been with the Oilers since the 2009-10 season.

Danis has appeared in 31 games for the Barons this season, going 15-13-3 with a 3.03 goals against average and a .901 save percentage. Danis was recalled from the Barons earlier this season, appearing in one game for the Oilers in relief of Devan Dubnyk on Jan. 22 against the San Jose Sharks.

The Oilers visit the Dallas Stars Thursday.
