The Washington Capitals newest acquisition, Martin Erat, left Saturday night’s game against the Florida Panthers after being hit from behind into the boards by defenceman Erik Gudbranson.

Erat lay on the ice for several minutes before being helped to the locker room by Capitals training staff. The 31-year-old was unable to put any weight on his right leg and did not return to the game.

Gudbranson was assessed a five-minute boarding major and a game misconduct.
