Evander Kane sleeps in, gets punished by Sabres

Courtesy of SabresTV Buffalo Sabres head coach Dan Bylsma talks about his disappointment in Evander Kane missing practice.

Evander Kane will be punished for sleeping in.

The winger will not dress for the Buffalo Sabres game in Ottawa Tuesday, head coach Dan Bylsma told reporters after Kane missed Monday’s practice.

Bylsma said Kane, 24, broke a team rule and that the Sabres will be dealing with the matter internally.

The coach was unaware Kane attended the NBA All-Star Game in Toronto Sunday night. The forward posted a photo of himself and his younger sister at the event on social media. According to the Buffalo News, Kane also posted (and later deleted) footage of his all-star partying on Snapchat.

Kane took a private jet to Toronto after scoring in Buffalo’s 4-1 matinee victory over the Colorado Avalanche. He called the team Monday to let the Sabres know he would miss practice.

“We got out of here about 3:30 p.m. [Sunday],” Bylsma said. “He could have made it to the game just fine and back.

“I’m disappointed.”

Kane has 16 goals and eight assists in 47 games this season, his first with Buffalo. He was not available to speak with the media Monday.
