Flames activate goaltender Mike Smith, assign Jon Gillies to AHL

CALGARY — Goaltender Mike Smith was activated off the injured reserve by the Calgary Flames on Sunday afternoon.

Calgary also terminated the emergency recall status of goaltender Jon Gillies and assigned him to the American Hockey League’s Stockton Heat.

Smith has a 23-16-6 record this season for the Flames with a 2.53 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage and two shutouts.

He was placed on the IR with an injured groin on Feb. 24.

Gillies appeared in seven games for Calgary this season. The 24-year-old goaltender posted a 2-2-1 record with a 2.78 GAA and a .904 save percentage.
