Flames closing in on deal with Derek Ryan, Austin Czarnik

The Calgary Flames could be busy once NHL free agency officially opens at 12:00 p.m. ET Sunday.

Calgary appears to be closing in on a three-year deal with centre Derek Ryan and a two-year agreement with centre Austin Czarnik.

The move would reunite Ryan with Bill Peters in Calgary. Peters previously coached Ryan on the Carolina Hurricanes the past three seasons.

Ryan scored 15 goals and added 23 assists in 80 games with the Hurricanes in 2017-18.

Czarnik logged 10 games with the Boston Bruins last season, tallying four assists. The 25-year-old collected 25 goals and 44 assists in 64 contests with the AHL’s Providence Bruins.
