Flames’ Lucic to have hearing for punching Blue Jackets’ Sherwood

Watch as Milan Lucic goes after Kole Sherwood after the Blue Jackets’ defenceman got a bit too close to David Rittich.

Calgary Flames forward Milan Lucic will have a hearing on Sunday to address his punch on Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kole Sherwood during their game on Saturday night, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced.

On the play in question — which resulted in a double-minor roughing penalty for Lucic — Lucic struck Sherwood with a punch, knocking him over, after Sherwood took one final jab at a puck that was frozen by Flames goalie David Rittich.

Lucic is no stranger to the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.

Just last season, Lucic received the maximum fine ($10,000) for roughing Tampa Bay Lightning forward Mathieu Joseph.

A determination of if the punch will lead to another fine or suspension will be made after Sunday’s hearing.
