Flames place Sam Bennett on long-term injured reserve

NHL insider Cassie Campbell-Pascall joins Hockey Central to discuss what she’s seeing different from Flames’ forward Johnny Gaudreau this season, which has led to season-long struggles.

The Calgary Flames have placed Sam Bennett on long-term injured reserve and recalled Tobias Rieder and Alexander Yelesin from AHL Stockton.

On Tuesday Sportsnet’s Derek Wills reported Bennett would be week-to-week with an upper-body injury.

Bennett has missed the past two Flames games with his injury. The 23-year-old forward has three goals and two assists in 20 games this season.

On top of Bennett’s injury, defencemen Travis Hamonic and T.J. Brodie are also unavailable for Thursday’s game against the St. Louis Blues.

Rieder was recalled one day after he was assigned to Stockton. He has one goal in 17 games this season.

Yelesin, a 23-year-old defenceman, has never played in the NHL. He has two points in 15 AHL games this season.
