Flames in ‘serious’ contract talks with Jaromir Jagr

The Calgary Flames are in serious contract talks with free agent forward Jaromir Jagr, reports Sportsnet’s John Shannon.

As reported Sunday by Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston on the Hockey Central season preview show, the Flames are one of three teams believed to be showing interest in the 45-year-old future Hall of Famer. The other two are the St. Louis Blues and a currently unknown club.

Jagr was scheduled to play this weekend for HC Kladno, a team he owns in the Czech Republic, but he withdrew as contract talks in the NHL began to pick up.

If he does sign with a team, the 2017-18 season will be Jagr’s 24th in the NHL. In 1,711 career games, he has 765 goals (third all-time) and 1,914 points (second all-time). Last season with the Florida Panthers, he had 16 goals and 46 points in 82 games.

Teams need to have their rosters set by 5 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday before the season begins Wednesday.
