Calgary Flames defenceman Juuso Valimaki sustained a torn ACL in his right knee during a training session last weekend and will require surgery that will sideline him indefinitely, the team announced Monday.

Valimaki, 20, was the Flames’ first-round pick in 2017 (16th overall).

He suited up in 24 games for the club last season, collecting a goal and two assists.

The six-foot-two, 212-pound rearguard spent the rest of the campaign with the AHL’s Stockton Heat, recording 14 points in 20 games.
