Kypreos: Panthers would like to trade Campbell

The Hockey Central panel breaks down some of the news and rumours circulating in the NHL, including the possible retirement of Daniel Alfredsson and the exit of Brian Campbell from Florida.

The Florida Panthers would like to trade defenceman Brian Campbell and the Detroit Red Wings are interested in his services, according to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos.

The Red Wings are hoping to move Jakub Kindl, but Kypreos says the Panthers would likely need one of Detroit’s top prospects on defence like Xavier Ouellet or Nick Jensen, but that’s not happening.

It’s unclear if any other teams are interested in Campbell at this time. He comes with a cap hit of $7,142,875 and is an unrestricted free agent following the 2015-16 season.

Campbell has two assists in three games with the Panthers this season and hasn’t missed a game with the team since being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks at the 2011 NHL Draft. The Strathroy, Ont., native has 119 points and 38 penalty minutes in 215 games as a Panther with a combined plus/minus rating of minus-38.
