Stephen Weiss and Brian Campbell will serve as assistant captains under Jovanovki.
In 66 games last season, Jovanovski posted three goals and 10 assists with a minus-11 rating while leading the Panthers to their first playoff appearance since 1999-00.
After being spending his four seasons with the Panthers franchise, Jovanovski played 12 seasons with the Phoenix Coyotes and Vancouver Canucks.
The veteran defenceman returned to Florida last season when he signed a four-year, $16.5 million contract in July of 2011.
Jovanovski was originally selected by the Panthers with the No. 1 pick in the 1994 NHL Draft.
