Flyers’ Brayden Schenn suspended 3 games for hit on Oshie

It appears Brayden Schenn of the Philadelphia Flyers launches himself at T.J. Oshie causing an injury.

Philadelphia Flyers forward Brayden Schenn has been suspended three games for charging after his hit on T.J. Oshie of the Washington Capitals.

The hit came in the second period of the Flyers’ Game 6 loss to the Capitals.

Schenn left his feet and hit Oshie up high. Oshie had to leave the game but did return as Washington eliminated the Flyers to move on to Round 2 of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

“Rather than staying low, and delivering a hit through Oshie’s shoulder or chest, Schenn launches himself up and into Oshie, making substantial contact with Oshie’s head,” said the NHL’s suspension video.

The Flyers forward had been disciplined by the league twice already in his NHL career.

On Jan. 23, 2013, Schenn was suspended one game for charging after a hit on New Jersey Devils defenceman Anton Volchenkov.

He was then fined on Dec. 13, 2013 for a cross-check to the head of then-Chicago Blackhawk Kris Versteeg.

Schenn will now have miss the first three games of the 2016-17 regular season.
