Briere out indefinitely with back injury

Daniel Briere will be out indefinitely with an upper back contusion, the Philadelphia Flyers announced on Monday.

The Flyers forward was injured on a check from Joe Vitale of the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday.

Briere has 16 goals, 49 points, and a plus-5 rating in 70 games this season.

The veteran forward was not the only Flyers player injured on Sunday as defenceman Nicklas Grossmann will be out 7-to-10 days with a lower back injury.

Grossmann, who was acquired from Dallas just before the 2012 NHL Trade Deadline, was banged up on a collission with Vitale on Sunday and did not return to the game.

The Penguins and Flyers remain one point apart in the Eastern Conference standings and are on pace to play eachother in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
