Giroux avoids serious injury after cut by skate

Flyers captain Claude Giroux was carried off the ice after taking Justin Faulk's skate blade to the back of the leg.

Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux left Friday’s game versus the Carolina Hurricanes during the third period after suffering an injury.

Giroux had to be helped off the ice after he appeared to take a skate to the back of his leg following a collision going into the boards with Hurricanes defenceman Justin Faulk. Blood appeared to be seeping through Giroux’s socks on the back of his left leg.

The Flyers quickly confirmed that Giroux would not return to the game.

Luckily, Giroux avoided serious injury and is probable for the Flyers’ Saturday night contest versus the New Jersey Devils.

Giroux addressed the media following the game, noting how lucky he was to avoid serious injury.

Giroux has 13 goals and 43 points in 37 games this season. The 26-year old centre has missed just five games with the Flyers since the beginning of the 2009-10 season.
