Flyers GM Ron Hextall says team will try to sign Wayne Simmonds

Watch as the Hockey Central draft panel discusses the entire first round of the 2018 NHL Draft from Dallas. Topics included Rasmus Dahlin, to the record setting amount of blue-liners selected.

Flyers general manager Ron Hextall says his team is looking to keep forward Wayne Simmonds in Philadelphia.

According to Sportsnet hockey insider Elliotte Friedman, Hextall says the Flyers are “going to try and sign him.”

This comes on the heels of a report from earlier this week indicating that Philadelphia was potentially looking to trade Simmonds.

The trade speculation made sense as the Scarborough, Ont., native’s current deal with the Flyers will expire at the end of next season when he’ll make $5 million in actual salary, but just $3.975 million against the cap.

Simmonds tallied 24 goals and 46 points to go with 57 penalty minutes in an injury-riddled 2017-18 campaign.
