Flyers’ Niskanen to have hearing for cross-check on Canadiens’ Gallagher

Brendan Gallagher would be in rough shape after taking a crosscheck from Matt Niskanen.

Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Matt Niskanen will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety Thursday after a cross-check on Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher.

The incident took place late in the third period of Wednesday’s Game 5 as the two players were battling in the corner and resulted in a bloody mouth for Gallagher. No penalty was called on the play.

The 28-year-old Gallagher was unavailable for post-game media availability but the specifics of a potential injury have not been detailed by the Canadiens due to NHL policy.

Gallagher scored a goal in Montreal’s 5-3 win as the Canadiens pushed the Flyers to a Game 6 on Friday night.
