Nail Yakupov has signed a one-year contract with SKA St. Petersburg, the KHL announced.

The 24-year-old winger was selected first overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2012 NHL Draft. The next four picks were Ryan Murray, Alex Galchenyuk, Griffin Reinhart and Morgan Rielly.

Yakupov’s best season was his rookie campaign of 2012-13 when he recorded 17 goals and 31 points while playing in all 48 games of the lockout-shortened season.

He had nine goals and 16 points in 58 games with St. Louis this past season.

Over 350 career NHL games, Yakupov has 62 goals and 136 points with Edmonton, St. Louis and Colorado. He has never appeared in a post-season game.
