Golden Knights forego advertisements on boards for home opener

Vegas Golden Knights assistant GM Kelly McCrimmon to discuss how the franchise will focus on paying tribute to the Vegas tragedy victims and the first responders, during Tuesday’s historic home opener.

The Vegas Golden Knights won’t display advertisements on the boards for their home opener Tuesday. The team will instead use the space to emphasize the strength of its community and pay tribute to the victims of the city’s recent mass shooting.

The Golden Knights are displaying #VegasStrong around the rink as a way to honour the 58 people who were killed and the hundreds more left injured after the deadliest mass shooting in modern United States history.

Vegas has skated to a surprising 2-0-0 start this season after a pair of road wins over the Dallas Stars and Arizona Coyotes. In the grand scheme of life, those victories are extremely small, but they have helped restore a little bit of light to a grieving community. Golden Knights GM George McPhee told Sportsnet’s Kristina Rutherford, “This community needed something to smile about.”

The Golden Knights will play in front of their home fans for the first time when they host the Coyotes at T-Mobile Arena Tuesday.
