Golden Knights’ Reaves, Sharks’ Thornton fined for high-sticking

Watch as Joe Thornton fools Malcolm Subban with a shot from way out, making the Golden Knights' netminder expect a pass from the Sharks veteran instead of a shot.

Vegas Golden Knights forward Ryan Reaves and San Jose Sharks forward Joe Thornton have been fined $2,500 each for a high-sticking incident, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced.

Thornton and Reaves were involved in an altercation after the whistle at the 15:20 of the first period, during which Thornton appeared to intentionally poke the butt-end of his stick into Reaves’ neck. Thornton received a two minute penalty for high-sticking at the time.

Later in the game, at the 16:10 of the third period, Reaves responded by high-sticking Thornton.

All of the money goes towards the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
