Beards have become synonymous with the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Apparently, David Backes has an issue with Joe Thornton‘s facial hair, as evidenced by the St. Louis Blues’ captain tugging on it during a first-period encounter in Game 1.
Normally, post-season beard growth begins with the start of the playoffs. San Jose Sharks’ Brent Burns and Thornton had quite a head start with their beards…which appears to have struck a nerve with the Blues.
Playoff beards shouldn’t count if you start in September. #NHL17Tarasenko #NHL17Tarasenko #NHL17Tarasenko pic.twitter.com/G6Gb8myAu3

Well played.
At least Thornton got a mitt into Backes’ mane, which should help level out his beard Corsi.
