Mark Stone is still recovering from a chest injury he suffered after skating into the juggernaut known as Dustin Byfuglien Wednesday night.
The Ottawa Senators forward was on the receiving end of perhaps the biggest body check of this NHL season when the 6-foot-5, 260-pound Winnipeg Jets defenceman timed a perfect open-ice hit.
If you were watching the game on TV or merely saw the highlight (above), the hit is obviously devastating. But you gain an entirely new appreciation of just how tremendous the impact was when you see it up close.
Jets fan Jason Hale had front row seats to Wednesday’s game, a 2-1 Sens win, and shot this video that captured the moment Big Buff turned Stone to chalk.
Byfuglien was not penalized on the play (nor should he have been) and Stone wasn’t able to return to the game. The exact nature of his injury and status going forward is currently unknown.
