Buffalo Sabres goaltender Jhonas Enroth tried to upstage teammate Ryan Miller for Best Save of 2014 on Tuesday, just two nights after Miller committed must-see larceny on Washington Capitals forward Mikhail Grabovski:
With the Sabres leading the suddenly relevant Philadelphia Flyers 1-0 in the first period, Flyers captain Claude Giroux makes a nice move to his backhand in the slot, giving him an open cage. Enroth loses his stick among the bodies in front of his crease but manages to scramble and dive — sans stick — to his right, making an incredible blocker save:
Enroth, who stopped 29 shots in a tough 4-3 loss Tuesday, played incredible despite the Sabres’ botched defensive assignments. He is worlds better than his ugly 1-9-3 record suggests, and the frustration is getting to him. Miller’s backup caused ripples last week when he admitted, “It’s tough to win with this team.”
But, damn, if he isn’t trying.
ENROTH DOING HIS BEST MILLER IMPRESSION WITH HIS BLOCKER. OUT OF POSITION, MAKES THE SAVE! #SABRES
