Gotta See It: Datsyuk’s slick bank shot

Gotta See It: Think we’re a little biased towards Pavel Datsyuk in this space?

Maybe… but with just cause. He is the kind of player you’ll tell later generations they missed out on. If he were a mixed drink, he’d be equal parts skill and effort and smarts. Pairs well with ice, of course.

With the Detroit Red Wings down a goal to the St. Louis Blues Wednesday night, Datsyuk shoots on rookie netminder Jake Allen, then refuses to give up on the play, gathering his own rebound and setting up behind the net. He spots an billiards-shark opportunity and fires a bank shot off Allen and into the net.

Though the Blues would go on to win 4-3 in overtime, Datsyuk’s game-tying goal did salvage a standings point for the Wings.

The magician now has a goal in three straight games.
