Pat Burns was long overdue for the Hall of Fame.

The legendary head coach spent more than 1,000 career NHL games behind the bench and made the playoffs in 11 of his 14 seasons before he was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a builder in 2014.

Here’s a list of his career achievements:

• Burns coached 1,019 regular season games, posting a career record of 501-353-151-14 (.573 winning percentage) with the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, and New Jersey Devils.

• Burns ranks 17th all-time in regular season wins.

• Burns had a playoff record of 78-71 (winning percentage of .523).

• He ranks eighth all-time in total playoff games coached and 11th all time in total playoff wins.

• Led Montreal to the Stanley Cup final in 1988-89.

• Burns won the Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils in 2002-03.

• He is the only coach to win the Jack Adams Award three times (’89 Canadiens, ’93 Leafs, ’98 Bruins). Each of his award wins were in his first season with the club.

• He won the QMJHL title in one of three seasons at the helm of the Hull Olympiques.
