Andrew Hammond has been one of the best stories in the latter portion of the NHL season as he starts his NHL career on an historic pace. With Friday’s 2-1 win over the New York Islanders, Hammond became just the third goalie in NHL history to allow two goals or fewer in his first 10 NHL games.

Hammond made 26 saves in Friday’s win, one of which was a high and inside Johnny Boychuk fastball. The recently re-signed Islanders defender crunched Hammond’s helmet with a slapshot. As the Islanders broadcast said “The Hamburglar almost got french-fried.”
After the game, Hammond was thankful his equipment held up its end of the bargain and protected him from serious injury.
Now that’s not a luxury either Frank Brimsek or Dolly Dolson had.
