The NHL’s department of player safety has suspended defenseman Anton Volchenkov for four games for his check to the head of Calgary Flames Forward Michael Ferland.
The Nashville Predators rearguard struck Ferland with a forearm to the face in the final minute of the second period of the Flames’ 4-3 win over the Predators on Friday, but he was not penalized on the play.
Volchenkov will forfeit $21,505.36 in salary.
