The Carolina Hurricanes activated starting goaltender Scott Darling off injured reserve, the team announced Monday.
Darling is being assigned to the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers to complete a conditioning stint before he returns to the Hurricanes.
The 29-year-old has been out since sustaining a lower-body injury in the pre-season. Darling went 13-21-7 with a 3.18 goals-against average and .888 save percentage in 2017-18, his first with Carolina.
Curtis McElhinney (3-1-0) and Petr Mrazek (1-2-1) have split starts for the Hurricanes in Darling’s absence.
