The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with forward Valentin Zykov, the team announced Friday.

The deal will pay Zykov $650,000 in 2018-19 and $700,000 in 2019-20.

“Valentin is a big body who proved he had the ability to finish around the net on the AHL and NHL levels last season,” Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell said in a release.

The 23-year-old appeared in 10 games for Carolina this past season, scoring three goals and seven points. Zykov played in 63 contests for the Charlotte Checkers in 2017-18, winning the Willie Marshall Award as the AHL’s leading scorer with 33 goals and 21 assists.

The six-foot-one, 224-pound forward was acquired by the Hurricanes in February 2016 in exchange for Kris Versteeg.
