Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour isn’t optimistic about Andrei Svechnikov‘s ability to return in the playoffs.
The Hurricanes were still awaiting the results from Svechnikov’s MRI after he suffered a lower-body injury in Game 3 against the Boston Bruins. Svechnikov’s leg turned in an awkward way while he battled Bruins defenceman Zdeno Chara for position in front of the Boston goal.
The 20-year-old Svechnikov held his right knee in pain and play was stopped. He was helped off the ice, unable to put any weight on his right leg.
After registering 24 goals and 61 points in 68 games this season, Svechnikov posted seven points in his first five games inside the Toronto bubble.
Carolina trails Boston 2-1 in their series, with Game 4 scheduled for Aug. 17 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
