The Carolina Hurricanes have signed defenceman Alex Lintuniemi to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Monday.

The deal is worth $700,000 at the NHL level and $85,000 in the AHL.

“Alex is a solid, two-way defenseman with size,” said Don Waddell, president and general manager of the Hurricanes, in a press release.

“Adding him helps improve our organizational depth on defence.”

The 23-year-old had 25 points in 67 games with the AHL’s Ontario Reign last season.

The six-foot-four, 231-pound native of Helsinki, Finland, was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round of the 2014 NHL Draft.
