Carolina Hurricanes centre Jordan Staal has been placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Dec. 5, the club announced Wednesday.

In a corresponding move, the team has recalled forward Janne Kuokkanen from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League.

Staal, 30, has missed the last two games for the Hurricanes after suffering a concussion on Dec. 5 versus the San Jose Sharks. The Thunder Bay, Ont., native has recorded 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) in 27 games this season.

Kuokkanen, a 2016 second-round pick of the Huricanes, leads the Checkers in scoring with 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists), registering a point in 19 of 26 games this season. The 20-year-old played four games for the Hurricanes last season, and represented Finland in the last two IIHF World Junior Championships.
