The Carolina Hurricanes have placed forward Jordan Staal on injured reserve.

Staal has missed the last five games for the Hurricanes with an upper-body injury. Prior to that, the 30-year-old missed two weeks with a concussion, so there is worry that his symptoms may have resurfaced.

In 29 games this season, Staal has five goals and six assists while possessing a solid 60.1 Corsi-for percentage.

The Hurricanes have recalled forward Greg McKegg from AHL Charlotte. Originally a Toronto Maple Leafs third-round pick in 2010, McKegg has spent time the Panthers, Lightning, and Penguins organizations prior to signing a one-year $715,000 deal with the Hurricanes in the off-season.

McKegg has scored three goals and chipped in 16 assists in 28 games for the Checkers this season.
