The Carolina Hurricanes re-signed defenceman Haydn Fleury to a one-year contract worth $850,000 on Tuesday.

Fleury, 23, posted one assist in 20 regular season NHL games with Carolina last season. In the AHL, he recorded two goals and eight assists in 28 games with the Charlotte Checkers.

“Haydn has taken strides during each of his three professional seasons in our organization,” Carolina president and general manager Don Waddell said in a statement. “We’ve been encouraged by his development and our hope is that he becomes a fixture in our lineup.”

Fleury has registered nine assists in 87 career NHL games, as well as 11 goals and 39 points in 101 AHL games.

The Carlyle, Sask., native was drafted seventh overall by the Hurricanes in the 2014 NHL Draft.
